Position Overview

The Learning Center for the Deaf is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Classroom Support Specialists. This role is essential in fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment for our students who are deaf and hard of hearing.

About Our Institution:

At The Learning Center for the Deaf, we provide a bilingual and bicultural educational model for nearly 200 students on our campus. Our mission is to empower deaf and hard of hearing individuals through quality education and support.
Role Summary:

Classroom Support Specialists assist educators in meeting the instructional and physical needs of students. This includes preparing educational materials, implementing activities, and providing direct supervision in both individual and group settings.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support teachers in creating instructional materials and classroom resources.
  • Facilitate learning exercises as directed by the teacher, adapting to the unique needs of each student.
  • Engage in data collection and documentation related to student progress.
  • Oversee and instruct students in the absence of the Classroom Teacher.
  • Assist students with physical needs, including personal care and mobility.
  • Monitor students during transitions to various activities.
  • Implement behavior management strategies as outlined by the teacher.

Physical Requirements: Some lifting may be necessary when working with younger students or those with special needs. The Learning Center for the Deaf values inclusion and diversity, and we are committed to making reasonable accommodations to support all staff and students.


Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Conversational fluency in American Sign Language is required; native or near-native proficiency is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within an educational team.
  • Previous experience working with children is advantageous.
  • Willingness to accept and utilize constructive feedback.
