TITLE:

Permanent Substitute Teacher/Campus Support Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Principal or their representative, the campus support specialist offers oversight and guidance to students across various areas of the school premises. This role is essential in maintaining classroom continuity, ensuring that learning continues in the absence of the primary instructor. The specialist is dedicated to fostering a secure environment for both students and staff during instructional and non-instructional activities, aligning with the high standards of Framingham Fire Department's educational objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

INSTRUCTION TIME
  • Implement daily substitute lesson plans.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' maturity and interests.
  • Guide the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for all lessons and projects.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that effectively meet stated objectives.
  • Assist administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct, maintaining order in the classroom.
  • Remain calm, efficient, and positive.
  • Supervise students in various settings, including lunch and recess.
  • Ensure the health and safety of students in their care.
  • Work with small groups to support their learning as needed.
  • Respond to student inquiries and provide guidance.
  • Address immediate problems or emergencies per school policies.

NON-INSTRUCTION TIME
  • Supervise students during lunchtime, ensuring a positive and safe atmosphere.
  • Circulate throughout the cafeteria during meals, assisting students as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order during lunch periods.
  • Direct student movement to and from the cafeteria and classrooms safely.
  • Report disciplinary concerns to the building administrator or classroom teacher.
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.

SAFETY & SECURITY
  • Monitor video surveillance systems daily and report malfunctions.
  • Conduct daily building security checks and report any breaches.
  • Assist in lockdown drills and other security procedures.
  • Supervise common areas, hallways, and parking lots.
  • Assist administrators with student supervision and conduct investigations as needed.

OTHER
  • Attend professional development and training as required.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the Building Principal or their designee.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee may encounter while performing essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to move about the school building and may need to remain stationary for extended periods. The employee may occasionally reach with hands and arms, sit, stoop, kneel, or crawl. The employee is expected to lift at least 30 lbs and frequently use hands for various tasks. Effective communication with students, parents, and staff is essential. The employee may occasionally need to move quickly across various surfaces and will work in a typical school environment with an acceptable noise level. The employee interacts directly with students, parents, and staff, being responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
