Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join our team at Stanford University's Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. As a key partner to the Division Director and Division Chief, you will oversee all financial processes in the division, ensuring the continued financial success of the division and compliance with all regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the work of other employees, make hiring decisions, provide coaching and mentoring, manage performance, and contribute to succession planning within the area of responsibility.
  • Establish overall objectives or direction for a unit, project, or operational area, plan, direct, and monitor all budgets for areas of responsibility, and manage business operation and administration of a functional unit or area.
  • Identify and resolve complex issues that may span multiple areas, apply ingenuity and creativity to problem analysis and resolution.
  • Oversee report preparation and analysis requiring the consolidation of multiple, complex financial and statistical data points.
  • Communicate financial policies and procedures, ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness for management financial processes and reports.
  • Participate in critical analysis of existing systems, policies, and procedures, recommend and implement approved solutions.
  • Contribute to projects in the work area or unit, make decisions determining the approach to managing and completing processes.
  • Represent the unit within the functional unit or school and to external constituencies.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in finance, accounting, or MBA.
  • Proven track record of ability and commitment to manage and develop staff.
  • Experience in academic finance preferred, including grants management and clinical trials contract awards.
  • Knowledge of Stanford financial systems, rules, and procedures preferred.
  • Ability to think strategically, be proactive, and anticipate change.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop staff.
  • Completion of Cardinal Curriculum level I and II.
Working Conditions
  • Routine extended working hours during peak cycles; travel to school/unit sites across the university.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

The expected pay range for this position is $124,000 to $157,000 (within the 10 Bay Area counties) or $107,000 to $140,000 per annum (all other regions).

At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.
