We are seeking a skilled Cost Estimator to become part of our team in the San Diego Area. This role is crucial for producing precise and timely cost estimates for various private and public construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze proposal specifications, drawings, soil reports, and existing site conditions to define the scope of work.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings.
  • Prepare pre-bid Requests for Information (RFIs) before the specification cutoff date.
  • Engage subcontractors and suppliers prior to the bid date to ensure comprehensive coverage of the work scope.
  • Facilitate coordination of work scope with other divisions and subcontractors.
  • Generate estimates by executing complete takeoffs of the work scope.
  • Maintain organized files of working documents to support estimating figures.
  • Collaborate with owners and other contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
  • Assist with project initiation and budget handoff.
  • Monitor post-bid submission timelines for contract procurement.
  • Manage awarded contracts as assigned, which may involve estimating additional work items, change orders, credits, procuring materials, and tracking progress, costs, budgets, and revenues.
  • Lead bid closing processes.
  • Mentor and train junior estimating staff.
  • Support the Chief Estimator with B2W maintenance and updates.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in alternative delivery pursuits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Educational Background

A Bachelor's degree is preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and relevant experience.

Professional Experience

A minimum of 5 years of estimating experience, with at least 1 year of field experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Capability to lead estimates for bids up to $75 million.
  • Strong work ethic and exceptional time management skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and computer skills.
  • Thorough understanding of company procedures, estimating techniques, engineering disciplines, cost control systems, and necessary accounts.
  • Proficiency in Bid2Win Estimating software.
  • Familiarity with Agtek, SureTrak, Primavera P6, and MS Project.
  • Competence in Blue Beam and SketchUp.
  • Advanced skills in reading plans and specifications.
  • Expertise in takeoffs.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing and project staffing needs.
  • Familiarity with Contract Accounting.
  • Knowledge of critical path methodology.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
