Job Title: Professor and Department Head

We are seeking an exceptional individual to serve as the Professor and Department Head of the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology at The Pennsylvania State University.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide leadership and vision as Department Head, overseeing the department's academic programs, research initiatives, and extension activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of scholarship, effective communication skills, and experience in program and administrative leadership.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the department's academic programs, including research, graduate and undergraduate instruction, and extension.
  • Provide administrative leadership, including academic affairs, departmental personnel, financial matters, and physical facilities.
  • Develop and implement strategic goals, engage with internal and external stakeholders, and foster a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Environmental Microbiology, Plant Disease Ecology and Evolution, or a closely related field.
  • Internationally recognized excellence in research, education, and/or extension as a faculty member in academia.
  • Effectiveness in advocating research, education, and extension missions.
  • Program and administrative leadership experience or strong evidence of potential for program and administrative leadership.
  • Excellence in written and oral communication, strong interpersonal and networking skills, and demonstrated ability to provide an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders.
