Job Title: Professor and Department Head

We are seeking an exceptional individual to serve as the Professor and Department Head of the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology at The Pennsylvania State University.

Job Summary:

The Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology is a leading institution in the field of plant pathology and environmental microbiology. As the Professor and Department Head, you will provide leadership and vision to the department, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that supports research, education, and extension programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic program leadership in research, graduate and undergraduate instruction, and extension.
  • Administer departmental personnel, financial matters, and physical facilities.
  • Lead departmental relations with other Penn State units and programs, agricultural producers, agricultural industries, government agencies, and citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Create an environment that supports and cultivates diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Environmental Microbiology, Plant Disease Ecology and Evolution, or a closely related field.
  • Internationally recognized excellence in research, education, and/or extension as a faculty member in academia.
  • Effectiveness in advocating research, education, and extension missions.
  • Program and administrative leadership experience or strong evidence of the potential for program and administrative leadership.
  • Excellence in written and oral communication.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders.
