Position Overview:
SUMMARY
The Chief Executive Officer is accountable for the strategic leadership and operational management of the organization, ensuring alignment with the foundational principles, mission, and policies established by the governing board. This role requires the ability to collaborate with the board to formulate and communicate a compelling long-term vision while securing the necessary support and resources from individuals, organizations, and the community to fulfill the agency's objectives. The CEO must foster collaboration among various stakeholders, even those with differing interests, and demonstrate a commitment to serving the homeless population with compassion, respect, and understanding.
Key Responsibilities:
Board Engagement
Maintain regular communication with the board of directors regarding ongoing initiatives, emerging opportunities, challenges, and significant organizational developments. Seek the board's guidance and expertise as needed.
Collaborate with the board to craft strategic plans, regularly reassessing and adjusting them to ensure clarity of objectives for both the board and management.
Prepare and distribute necessary materials and reports for board meetings and committee activities.
Participate in board committee meetings to facilitate their work.
Lead the development and management of the annual budget.
Financial and Human Resources Management
Successfully secure human and financial resources to meet the organization's current and future needs, leveraging a robust volunteer program and comprehensive fundraising efforts.
Identify and engage individuals capable of making significant contributions, developing strategies to solicit major gifts.
Balance financial objectives with human service goals.
Collaborate with management on human resources consulting.
Staff Management
Recruit dedicated personnel aligned with the agency's mission.
Develop and implement a staff retention strategy.
Regularly create and update job descriptions.
Evaluate the relevance of each position during hiring processes.
Supervise, support, and provide ongoing training for staff members.
Fundraising and Development
Oversee all fundraising initiatives.
Utilize networks and connections to explore new opportunities.
Investigate potential grant awards and private funding sources.
Operational Policies and Procedures
Establish and monitor compliance with agency policies and procedures.
Implement and assess the effectiveness of financial and operational controls.
Ensure compliance with all governmental regulations, legal requirements, and grant obligations.
Ensure that grant-funded programs adhere to guidelines and operate within budgetary constraints.
Initiate the development of a strategic plan to support the organization's mission and sustainability.
Community Engagement
Build and maintain partnerships with other non-profit organizations, businesses, and community members to create innovative programs that advance the agency's mission.
Enhance community awareness of the agency's mission and the challenges faced by the homeless population.
Act as an advocate for the organization within the community and among funding sources.
Promote positive public policies addressing homelessness at the community level and beyond.
Engage in community task forces, networking groups, and committees relevant to the agency's mission.
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Essential Characteristics:
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role encompasses oversight of all staff performance, directly supervising key management positions. The CEO must provide clear direction, delegate effectively, and foster a collaborative environment that encourages teamwork and personal development.
Qualifications:
To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Education and Experience:
A Master's degree in Social Work or a related field is preferred; a Bachelor's degree in social work or human services is acceptable. Candidates should have at least five years of administrative experience in a successful non-profit organization, including a proven track record in staff development and team leadership, as well as experience in community or social service work. A solid understanding of the financial and operational aspects of a non-profit organization is essential, along with fundraising experience.
