Position Overview:

SUMMARY

The Executive Director is accountable for the strategic leadership and administration of the organization, ensuring alignment with the foundational documents, mission, and policies set forth by the governing board. This role involves collaborating with the board to establish and communicate a compelling long-term vision while securing necessary support and resources from various stakeholders to fulfill organizational goals. The ideal candidate will foster partnerships among diverse entities, balancing differing interests, and will demonstrate a commitment to serving the homeless population with compassion and respect.

Key Responsibilities:

Board Engagement

· Provide regular updates to the board of directors regarding ongoing initiatives, emerging opportunities, challenges, and significant organizational changes. Seek guidance and insights from board members as needed.

· Collaborate with the board to formulate and refine strategic plans, ensuring objectives are clear and revisited periodically.

· Prepare and disseminate essential materials and reports to facilitate board and committee functions.

· Attend board committee meetings to support their objectives.

· Lead the development and oversight of the annual budget.

Resource Management

· Successfully acquire human and financial resources to address the organization's current and future needs, leveraging a robust volunteer program and comprehensive fundraising initiatives.

· Identify and engage potential major donors, developing strategies for solicitation.

· Maintain a balance between financial sustainability and service delivery.

· Collaborate with management for human resources consulting.

Staff Development

· Recruit dedicated professionals aligned with the organization's mission.

· Design and implement a staff retention strategy.

· Regularly update job descriptions to reflect current needs.

· Assess the relevance of each position during recruitment processes.

· Provide supervision, support, and ongoing training for staff members.

Fundraising Initiatives

· Oversee all fundraising activities and initiatives.

· Utilize networks to identify and pursue funding opportunities.

· Explore avenues for grants and private contributions.

Operational Oversight

· Develop and enforce organizational policies and procedures, ensuring compliance.

· Monitor the effectiveness of financial and operational controls.

· Ensure adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements.

· Guarantee that grant-funded programs comply with contractual obligations and budgetary constraints.

· Initiate the development of a strategic plan to support the organization's mission and sustainability.

Community Engagement

· Cultivate partnerships with other non-profit organizations, businesses, and community members to enhance program offerings and advance the mission.

· Raise community awareness regarding the organization and the issues faced by the homeless population.

· Act as an advocate for the organization within the community and among funding sources.

· Promote positive public policies addressing homelessness at local and broader levels.

· Participate in community task forces and networking groups relevant to the mission.

Additional Responsibilities:

· Undertake other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Essential Characteristics:

Supervisory Role

This position oversees the performance of all staff, directly supervising key departmental leaders. The Executive Director must provide clear guidance, empower team members, and foster a collaborative environment that encourages personal and professional growth.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following:

Education and Experience: A Master's degree in social work or a related field is preferred; a Bachelor's degree in social work or human services is acceptable. A minimum of five years of administrative experience in a successful non-profit organization, with a proven track record in staff development and community service work. Strong understanding of the financial and operational aspects of non-profit management is essential. Fundraising experience is highly desirable.
