Position Overview:
SUMMARY
The Executive Director is accountable for the strategic leadership and operational management of the organization, ensuring alignment with the mission, vision, and policies set forth by the governing board. This role requires the ability to collaborate with the board to establish a compelling long-term vision and to mobilize support and resources from individuals, organizations, and the community to fulfill the agency's objectives. The Executive Director should foster partnerships among various stakeholders, including those with differing interests, and demonstrate a commitment to compassion and understanding towards vulnerable populations.
Key Responsibilities:
Board Engagement
· Provide regular updates to the board of directors regarding ongoing initiatives, emerging opportunities, potential risks, and significant organizational developments. Seek guidance and expertise from board members as needed.
· Collaborate with the board to formulate and refine strategic plans, ensuring clarity of objectives and adjusting as necessary.
· Prepare and disseminate essential materials and reports for board meetings and committee activities.
· Attend committee meetings to support their objectives and initiatives.
· Lead the development and oversight of the annual budget.
Resource Management
· Successfully secure human and financial resources to address the current and future needs of the organization, which includes a robust volunteer program and diverse fundraising efforts.
· Identify and engage individuals capable of making significant contributions; develop strategies for soliciting major gifts.
· Balance financial objectives with the organization’s service goals.
· Collaborate with management on human resources consulting.
Staff Development
· Recruit dedicated professionals who align with the agency's mission.
· Design and implement a staff retention strategy.
· Regularly update job descriptions to reflect current responsibilities.
· Assess the relevance of each position when vacancies arise.
· Supervise, mentor, and provide ongoing training for staff members.
Fundraising Oversight
· Manage all fundraising initiatives and activities.
· Leverage networks to create opportunities for funding.
· Investigate potential grant opportunities and private funding sources.
Operational Excellence
· Develop and enforce organizational policies and procedures, ensuring compliance.
· Implement and monitor effective financial and operational controls.
· Ensure adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements.
· Oversee compliance with grant obligations and budgetary constraints.
· Initiate the development of a strategic plan to enhance organizational sustainability.
Community Engagement
· Cultivate partnerships with other non-profit organizations, businesses, and community members to foster innovative programs that advance the agency's mission.
· Raise community awareness regarding the agency's mission and the challenges faced by the homeless population.
· Act as an advocate for the organization within the community and among funding sources.
· Promote public policies that address homelessness and related issues.
· Participate in community task forces and networking groups relevant to the agency's mission.
Additional Responsibilities:
· Undertake other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Essential Qualifications:
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role includes oversight of all staff performance, directly supervising key management positions. The Executive Director must provide clear direction, empower team members, and foster a collaborative environment.
Education and Experience
A Master's degree in social work or a related field is preferred; a Bachelor's degree in social work or human services is acceptable. A minimum of five years of administrative experience in a non-profit organization, including staff management and development, is required. A strong understanding of the financial and operational aspects of non-profits is essential, along with fundraising experience.
