POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Business Controls Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the formulation and execution of information technology risk strategies as outlined by the IT Business Controls leadership. This position entails close collaboration with the IT Business Controls team to prioritize tasks and evaluate completed projects. The manager will engage in hands-on execution of risk assessments and provide recommendations for control enhancements. Additionally, this role serves as an advisory resource to IT leadership.

Accountability for risk management is paramount, which includes open communication of ideas and concerns, adherence to policies, and ensuring a positive experience for customers and colleagues. The manager will consistently identify, assess, manage, monitor, and report various types of risks while operating within the Bank's risk appetite.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and implement processes that establish risk limits and ensure effective identification, measurement, monitoring, and control of risks.
  • Assist leadership in crafting strategies and implementing controls, policies, and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Influence senior management to enforce robust risk and governance practices while aligning with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with leadership to translate control strategies into actionable initiatives.
  • Work with senior leaders to communicate the organization’s mission and goals regarding business controls within the Enterprise Risk Management framework.
  • Manage relationships with internal control groups and represent the line of business on relevant risk committees.
  • Identify control deficiencies and implement corrective actions while keeping management informed of policy changes.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations, maintaining awareness of industry trends and regulatory changes.
  • Provide comprehensive reporting on key issues arising from various sources.
  • Resolve issues raised by internal auditors and external parties efficiently.
  • Facilitate organizational design to maximize governance and productivity.
  • Guide and train on the effective implementation of risk management frameworks.
  • Review policies for compliance with risk appetite statements and maintain centralized documentation.
  • Lead regulatory change management efforts to ensure compliance with applicable changes.
  • Oversee self-identified issues and participate in remediation efforts.
  • Conduct testing for processes and manage operational risks in line with the Enterprise Risk Management framework.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of processes, products, and associated risks.
  • Evaluate risks related to new products and initiatives prior to formal reviews.
  • Coordinate data quality checks and monitor operational loss trends.
  • Provide oversight for supplier strategies and engage in escalated issues.
  • Develop risk dashboards that integrate key risk indicators with emerging risks.
  • Advise on risk acceptances within the line of business.
  • Manage product inventory and execute risk review programs.
  • May involve additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership, including special projects and regulatory program implementation.
SUPERVISORY ROLE:

This position is responsible for providing constructive feedback, fostering employee development, and ensuring succession planning within the team. Typically supervises individual contributors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 8+ years of experience in information technology.
  • 8+ years in financial services, risk management, or compliance preferred.
  • Experience in IT controls with specialization in areas such as information security or IT management consulting.
  • Relevant technical certifications are highly recommended.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems required.
  • Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex policies and regulations.
  • Proactive in building strategic relationships and networks.
  • Collaborative and influential with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
