About the Role

The Hartford is seeking a highly skilled P&C Middle Market Underwriter to join our team. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for managing and underwriting a Middle Market book of business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and underwrite a Middle Market book of business
  • Analyze agency books on a quarterly basis for potential action
  • Apply underwriting guidelines to make informed decisions
  • Underwrite complex business with minimal support from senior underwriters
  • Stay up-to-date on applicable laws, regulations, and governance
  • Develop and execute strategies for new and renewal accounts
  • Act as a trusted advisor and solution provider to brokers and agents
Requirements
  • 5+ years of P&C Middle Market broker-facing carrier underwriting experience
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external business partners
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to think analytically and make recommendations
  • High energy self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong time, organizational, and desk management skills
  • Goal-oriented with a focus on delivering outcomes
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win
  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making skills
What We Offer

The Hartford is proud to offer a hybrid work environment. Selected candidates must be located in commuting distance to one of our posted regions and have the ability to travel frequently within the assigned region.

The listed annualized base pay range is $95,120 - $178,680. The base pay is just one component of our total compensation package, which includes short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
