POSITION SUMMARY: The Administrative House Manager plays a crucial role in providing both clinical and administrative support to nursing staff, overseeing the operations of all departments in the absence of department heads and hospital administration. This role is vital in maintaining nursing care standards and promoting the professional development of employees and students utilizing Gateway Regional Medical Center's clinical facilities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures optimal staffing levels for all patient care units, considering continuity of care, clinical expertise, and unit acuity, while being mindful of costs and appropriate care hours.
  • Fosters a positive work environment.
  • Provides counseling to employees as necessary and takes immediate disciplinary action when required.
  • Conducts a minimum of two rounds on all patient care units during each shift, staying informed of concerns from other departments.
  • Acts as a resource in the absence of other departmental personnel, such as Central Supply and Pharmacy.
  • Offers leadership and direction aligned with departmental and organizational goals.
  • Facilitates communication with physicians, staff, patients, and families to address issues and enhance care.
  • Assists department managers with staff performance evaluations.
  • Serves as a liaison to departments involved with Nursing Services, including Education, Human Resources, and Medical Records.
  • Actively participates in Nursing Service Administration meetings.
  • Adapts to changing situations to meet organizational needs.
  • Acts as a clinical resource, assisting nursing staff in assessing patient and family needs to plan appropriate care.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Graduate of a state-approved nursing program.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in acute care, with at least 2 years of management or administrative experience in healthcare preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • CPR certification is required.
  • Exceptional communication skills for effective interaction with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to meet productivity standards.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Knowledge of growth and development across all patient age groups, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Ability to understand and respond effectively to patient needs.
