KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee designated laboratory sections under the guidance of the Laboratory Administrative Director and Medical Director.
Report directly to the Laboratory Administrative Director.
Ensure the accuracy and precision of all testing procedures.
Develop and maintain section-specific policies and procedures.
Manage staffing within the sections, performing a variety of complex and routine assays while addressing analytical challenges.
Facilitate the training of students and new staff members.
Administer and ensure the completion of competency assessments for all personnel within the sub-department.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels and manage dating of supplies.
Evaluate, implement, and validate new equipment, ensuring proper training for staff.
Guarantee the accuracy and completeness of test reporting.
Maintain departmental productivity and efficiency.
Keep records and statistical data in compliance with regulatory standards.
Assist in maintaining laboratory operations and perform additional tasks as necessary to ensure seamless patient care.
Apply laboratory principles, theories, and techniques professionally while adhering to laboratory and hospital policies.
May be required to take on additional responsibilities in the absence of the laboratory manager and/or administrative director.
Exhibit exceptional customer service skills.
Demonstrate the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Provide constructive feedback and guidance to team members.
Contribute insights to the evaluation of departmental staff and assist with performance improvement documentation.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, with completion of an approved ASCP (or equivalent) certification pathway or fulfillment of CLIA requirements for HEW certification.
- Completion of one year in an accredited laboratory training program.
EXPERIENCE:
- Qualification as a general supervisor under CLIA standards.
- A minimum of two years of laboratory experience in moderate and high complexity testing within the respective specialty.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:
Certification as a Medical Technologist, MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), HEW, or CLS (NCA) or equivalent is required for individuals who completed certification requirements in 2004 or later. Registry is required within 12 months of completing school/training or equivalent educational documentation per CLIA standards. Individuals qualified for certification prior to December 31, 2003, are not required to maintain yearly certification.
