Position Overview:
Under the direct guidance of a certified educator, the Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in collaborating with the special education team to assist students in achieving their academic and social goals. This role encompasses both instructional and non-instructional responsibilities, fostering meaningful relationships between students and staff.

Work Schedule:
5.75 hours/day, 5 days/week, 38 weeks/year
  • Facilitates and supports students' educational and social growth through individualized and small group interactions to reinforce essential learning skills.
  • Collaborates with professional staff in implementing classroom tasks and evaluations.
  • Assists in preparing classroom materials and adapting instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs, including the creation and distribution of educational resources.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to completing district-mandated Nonviolent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training and maintaining certification as required.
  • Utilizes data tracking systems to document student progress and performance in alignment with Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and other support plans.
  • Supervises students in non-instructional settings, including lunch programs, bus duty, and playground activities.
  • Provides assistance with personal care needs, including grooming and self-care, as outlined in students' Personal Care Services (PCS).
  • Accompanies students on field trips to ensure adequate supervision.
  • Engages with parents as directed by the teacher to promote effective involvement in the educational process.
  • Supports students with disabilities in all facets of classroom instruction to enhance inclusion and achievement of IEP objectives.
  • Participates in the IEP process and serves as a resource for the evaluation team as necessary.
  • Assists students with physical or mental challenges in daily living activities to enhance their participation in educational and social experiences.
  • Adheres to all safety protocols and regulations while providing assistance to students with special needs.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned.
Equipment Utilization:
Operates standard office equipment, including personal computers and copiers.

Travel Requirements:
May require travel between schools and central offices for specific roles.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively.
  • Competence in basic arithmetic operations to assist students as needed.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
  • Ability to build supportive and empathetic relationships with students with special needs.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse economic, cultural, and racial environment.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of two years of study at an institution of higher learning (equivalent to 60 credits) OR attainment of an associate's degree (or higher) OR successful completion of an approved formal state academic assessment.
  • Prior experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and training in effective classroom management techniques, including verbal de-escalation skills and physical interventions, may be required.
  • Willingness to engage in professional development as identified by school leadership.
