Position Overview
The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Specialist is integral to fulfilling the mission, vision, and objectives of PM Pediatric Care. This role offers a Pediatrician/PEM Physician the chance to utilize their expertise in a pediatric urgent care environment. The Physician is tasked with assessing and delivering evidence-based care to pediatric patients, operating under the direct supervision of the Medical Director. This position emphasizes the importance of building strong relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and support staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage acute injuries and illnesses, including but not limited to anaphylaxis, procedural anxiolysis, respiratory distress, croup, and asthma.
  • Conduct procedural interventions such as abscess drainage, foreign body extraction, and laceration repair using sutures, staples, and dermal adhesive.
  • Provide preliminary assessments of x-rays, pending official radiology interpretations.
  • Supervise patient flow and daily operations of the facility, including oversight of other healthcare providers, staff, and trainees on duty.
  • Ensure compliance with operational policies and procedures, reporting necessary changes to management.
  • Collaborate with the onsite team to ensure the completion of daily tasks, including lab and radiology result reviews, patient follow-ups, and timely responses to inquiries.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and protect operational integrity by adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  • Enhance professional knowledge through continuing education, reading relevant publications, maintaining professional networks, and engaging in professional organizations.
  • Support the clinical team and patients in addressing concerns and actively participate in service recovery as needed.
  • Focus on performance metrics to enhance urgent care efficiency, patient satisfaction, and throughput.
Qualifications
  • Experience in pediatrics is essential; experience in Pediatric ER, Pediatric hospitalist, or Pediatric Urgent Care is preferred.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatrics.
  • Possession of an active state license for each state where patient care is provided.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required within six months of hire.
  • Proficient in rapid assessment of critical pediatric presentations.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain composed in emergency situations.
  • Effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with EMR systems (eCW experience preferred).
  • Capacity for critical thinking, multitasking, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.
