Senior Counsel, Renewable Energy Solutions

Tesla is seeking a Senior Counsel for Renewable Energy Solutions to be based in our California or Texas offices. This role is essential in supporting the expansion of our global energy initiatives. Reporting directly to the Assistant General Counsel for Energy Products, you will concentrate on our diverse solar and energy storage operations, which include residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale projects across the United States. Additionally, you will play a key role in facilitating international transactions within our primary EMEA and APAC markets, as well as exploring opportunities in emerging regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer legal guidance on a broad spectrum of strategic, regulatory, and transactional issues pertaining to the Energy sector in the United States, encompassing both commercial and consumer-related matters.
- Structure and negotiate essential agreements, including equipment supply, EPC, O&M, commodity, real property, interconnection, performance guarantees, warranties, and other significant project contracts for solar, energy storage, and supercharging initiatives of varying scales.
- Assist in the preparation and review of responses to requests for proposals and other competitive bids.
- Support solar and energy storage transactions in our core APAC and EMEA markets, advising on market entry strategies and new product launches for the Energy Products division globally.
- Outstanding academic credentials, ideally holding a Juris Doctor from a prestigious law school, along with a valid license to practice in one or more U.S. jurisdictions.
- A minimum of 12 years of legal practice experience at a reputable law firm, with a strong preference for in-house experience within the energy sector.
- Proven track record in structuring and leading negotiations for substantial transactions in energy, construction, project finance, or related fields, with a preference for renewable energy expertise.
- A collaborative team player capable of proactively identifying challenges, driving projects forward, and developing pragmatic legal and business solutions.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Must be a quick learner, intellectually curious, adaptable, and comfortable with ambiguity and change.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with colleagues and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
- High ethical standards, integrity, and sound judgment, complemented by strong analytical abilities and superior oral and written communication skills.
