Senior Counsel, Renewable Energy Solutions

Tesla is seeking a Senior Counsel for Renewable Energy Solutions to be based in our California or Texas offices. This role is essential for supporting the expansion of our global energy initiatives. Reporting directly to the Assistant General Counsel for Energy Products, you will concentrate on our residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar, energy storage, and supercharging operations across the United States. Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in international transactions within our core EMEA and APAC markets and our growth into emerging regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer legal guidance on a diverse range of strategic, regulatory, and transactional issues for the Energy division in the U.S., encompassing both commercial and consumer aspects.
- Design and negotiate essential agreements related to equipment supply, EPC, O&M, commodities, real estate, interconnection, performance guarantees, warranties, and other significant project contracts for solar, energy storage, and supercharger initiatives of varying scales.
- Assist in the preparation and review of responses to requests for proposals and other competitive bids.
- Facilitate solar and energy storage transactions in our primary APAC and EMEA markets while advising on market entry strategies and new product launches for the Energy Products sector globally.
- Outstanding academic credentials, ideally possessing a Juris Doctor from a prestigious law school. A valid license to practice in one or more U.S. jurisdictions is required.
- A minimum of 12 years of legal practice experience at a reputable law firm, with a strong preference for in-house experience within the energy sector.
- Proven track record in structuring and leading negotiations for substantial transactions in energy, construction, project finance, or related fields, with a focus on renewable energy.
- A collaborative team player with the ability to proactively identify challenges, drive projects forward, and develop pragmatic and innovative legal and business solutions.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Must be a quick learner, intellectually curious, adaptable, and comfortable with uncertainty and change.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with colleagues and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
- High ethical standards, impeccable integrity, sound judgment, well-developed analytical skills, and superior oral and written communication abilities.
