Job Description

Whitman College is seeking a highly motivated and organized Community Engagement Coordinator to support the College's efforts to develop and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships with local organizations in the Walla Walla Valley. The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting, training, and mentoring student leaders, as well as developing and implementing community engagement programs that promote student learning and community development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit, train, and mentor student leaders to participate in community engagement programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local community partners to identify opportunities for student engagement and volunteer work.
  • Support Spanish-English dual language students and volunteers to meet community needs.
  • Serve as the Community Service House Advisor, an interest community through Residence Life at Whitman.
  • Connect with Whitman students to brainstorm and discuss community-facing work.
  • Lead administrative support for CCEC resources used by community engagement programs, such as maintaining the Center's van.
  • Plan and facilitate professional and leadership development workshops, meetings, and retreats for community engagement student leaders and volunteers.
  • Collect and report data relevant to community engagement.
  • Manage the community engagement programming budget and guide student leaders on utilizing and managing Center resources.
  • Attend, participate in, and support community engagement events, which may require some weekend and evening hours.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or two years of relevant work experience.
  • High degree of proficiency in the Spanish language.
  • Valid Driver's License with 3+ years of driving experience and a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations.
  • Familiarity with the Walla Walla Valley.
  • Experience mentoring, advising, and/or coaching individuals or students in a higher education setting.
