Responsibilities
Job Summary / Purpose
The role of a Radiation Therapist involves administering radiation treatments to patients as part of their therapeutic journey. This position requires a strong focus on patient safety and care, utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills to implement prescribed treatment protocols effectively. The therapist is responsible for maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring compliance with radiation safety standards for all involved.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with radiation oncologists to develop precise treatment plans that target specific areas with accurate radiation dosages.
- Utilize simulators and imaging technologies to accurately localize treatment volumes.
- Create detailed patient treatment plans based on localization data and specialized planning software.
- Communicate treatment procedures clearly to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.
- Position patients correctly on treatment couches to facilitate effective radiation delivery.
- Identify anatomical landmarks and mark treatment areas for radiation entry using skin markers.
- Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals and contribute to enhancing clinical safety practices.
- Provide on-call services as required and perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
+ Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
Required Licensure and Certifications
+ Registration with the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) is mandatory.
+ A valid state license is required.
+ BLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training
In-depth knowledge of radiation oncology techniques, oncologic pathology, anatomy, physiology, treatment planning, and dosimetry is essential. Familiarity with all equipment and software utilized in the department is required.
