Job Summary

The

Underground Utility Construction Supervisor


guides the team in executing daily operations related to the construction and maintenance of underground power lines, extending from plant/station to meter base, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for electricity distribution.

They interpret project blueprints and are accountable for production outcomes. This role supervises the Line team, prioritizes crew safety, and collaborates with personnel from various departments.

Core Responsibilities
1. Acquire all necessary materials for the project and ensure all permits and licenses are secured.
2. Oversee project-related work and take full responsibility for its quality and timely completion.
3. Ensure compliance with safety standards, procedures, and practices as per MasTec or customer guidelines, whichever is more stringent.
4. Conduct daily toolbox discussions and weekly safety inspections. Communicate information and ensure comprehension of safety briefings.
5. Coordinate and supervise daily tasks for crew members involved in excavation and installation activities.
6. Execute switching procedures to isolate and insulate, splice, and terminate underground power lines while adhering to safety protocols.

7. Facilitate the connection and disconnection, installation and removal, relocation and transfer of various electrical devices on customer facilities, including transformers, transformer banks, regulators, switches, and capacitor banks.

8. Properly phase and mark/tag underground equipment.
9. Operate equipment to assist crews in completing work at job sites.
10. Mentor new hires and trainees in the trade.
11. Notify utilities regarding the location of each project site.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years of experience in operating heavy machinery and general construction.
- 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6 or more years of experience, including substantial experience in supervising and training skilled labor.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position operates in a field environment.

This role frequently requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and twisting.

Additionally, work may be performed in adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be capable of bending, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds.

Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships.

Precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors are essential.
