About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Design Engineering Manager to lead our R&D Team at Phiston Technologies. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in the management and development of our product designs, ensuring they meet quality, functionality, and manufacturability standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Oversee the development of complex mechanical designs, creating accurate 3D models and comprehensive 2D drawings using SolidWorks in accordance with Phiston Technologies' design standards.
  • Team Management: Manage a team of engineers to develop production-ready drawing packages, ensuring they meet deadlines, budget constraints, and quality standards.
  • Collaboration and Innovation: Collaborate with the Manufacturing team to develop innovative design solutions and enhance existing designs through value engineering.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate and oversee the work of project teams, including engineers, technicians, and other professionals.
  • Quality and Compliance: Ensure product designs comply with engineering drawing standards (ISO/ANSI) and are tailored for manufacturability, including complete tolerance schemes in SI units.
  • Documentation and Revision Control: Enhance and manage a comprehensive revision control system to ensure all documentation is current and accurate throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Inventory and Project Management: Supervise the systematic assignment of part numbers to facilitate organized inventory and project management.
  • Expertise and Specialization: Leverage your expertise in sheet metal design, electronic packaging, material selection, reliability assessment, mechanism design, instrument design, and automation to elevate product performance and functionality.
  • Electrical Design and Integration: Develop electrical schematics, interconnect diagrams, and wire harnesses to integrate mechanical and electrical components seamlessly.
  • Test Equipment and Tools: Design test equipment and tools to facilitate comprehensive testing and validation processes.
  • BOMs and Procurement: Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and specify component details for accurate procurement and assembly procedures.
  • FEA Analysis and Risk Mitigation: Conduct FEA analysis to ensure the reliability and safety of designs, and prepare DFMEA and FMEA reports to identify and mitigate potential risks in the design and manufacturing processes.
  • Industry Research and Development: Stay abreast of the latest in design techniques, tools, and best practices in Solidworks and related technologies, and perform market and competitor research to evaluate new products to build and enter the market.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and internal departments.
  • Project Risk Management: Identify and mitigate project risks and resolve any issues that arise during the project lifecycle.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related Engineering fields.
  • A minimum of ten years of work experience in a relevant engineering domain and 5+ years in a managerial role.
  • Expert proficiency in Solidworks, including 3D CAD modeling, simulation, and data management.
  • A deep understanding of mechanical and electrical design principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawing standards (ISO/ANSI) and tolerance analysis.
  • Expertise in sheet metal design, electronic packaging, mechanism design, and automation.
  • Experience in creating electrical schematics, interconnect diagrams, and wire harnesses.
  • Proficiency in test equipment and tool design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proven experience in project management with the ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering projects from conception to completion.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and design for manufacturing is a plus.
  • Strong skills in FEA analysis and experience with DFMEA and FMEA reporting.
