Position Overview

The CAE Design Engineer plays a pivotal role in overseeing all design functions within the Americas. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting mold flow analyses tailored to customer needs, serving as the North America Mold Flow simulation authority, managing the North American design database, and acting as the primary contact for design-related data. Additionally, responsibilities include administration of APS PPC North American Technical Data Sheets and verification of both static and dynamic tensile/flexural data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support all mold filling and structural engineering projects assigned to the APS North America Engineering Design Group, covering both automotive and non-automotive sectors.
  • Assist customers with mold filling initiatives by participating in design reviews, providing recommendations on gating, geometry, and other product-related design aspects.
  • Oversee the Engineering Design North America material database, which encompasses material properties for mold flow analyses, including thermal and mechanical data, tensile/flexural data, creep, fatigue, and compression data.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and business development teams to advocate for LyondellBasell products and innovations.
  • Support Product Application Development (PAD) and business units in generating advanced design data.
  • Act as the main point of contact for outsourcing design data, obtaining quotes, and coordinating with PAD Engineers for resin samples while ensuring the accuracy of tested data.
  • Work closely with CAE Design Engineers across different regions.
  • Serve as the focal point for property data and part design for North American customers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Address design challenges faced by North American customers related to our materials.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Polymers, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in mold filling, cooling, and stress analysis.
  • Proficient knowledge of polymeric materials, including their mechanical properties, design life, viscoelasticity, stress-relaxation, and fatigue characteristics.
  • Experience with the polymer injection molding process and tool design.
  • Skilled in model building using tools such as IDEAS and Hypermesh, as well as mold filling, packing, cooling, shrink, and warp analysis using C-Mold, Moldflow, and Autodesk.
  • Experience in structural analysis using ABAQUS and failure analysis with various materials models.
  • Able to convey simulation results to customers in a clear and comprehensible manner.
  • Familiarity with polymer blending and/or compounding processes is preferred.
  • Understanding of micromechanics and constitution models of polymeric materials.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.
