Position Overview
The CAE Design Engineer plays a pivotal role in overseeing all design initiatives across the Americas. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting mold flow analyses as required by clients, serving as the North America Mold Flow simulation authority, and maintaining the North American design database. The engineer will also act as the primary contact for design data and manage the APS PPC North American Technical Data Sheets, while ensuring the verification and formatting of both static and dynamic tensile/flexural data.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and support various mold filling and structural engineering projects (both automotive and non-automotive) assigned to the APS North America Engineering Design Group.
• Collaborate with customers on mold filling projects by participating in design reviews (Mold Flow & Materials) and providing design recommendations for gating, geometry, and other product-related aspects.
• Manage the Engineering Design North America material database, which encompasses material properties (thermal and mechanical data) for mold flow analyses, as well as static and dynamic tensile/flexural data, creep data, fatigue data, and compression data (advanced design data).
• Assist sales, marketing, and business development teams in promoting LyondellBasell products and innovations.
• Aid Product Application Development (PAD) teams and business units with the generation of advanced design data.
• Serve as the focal point for outsourcing design data, obtaining quotes, and collaborating closely with PAD Engineers for resin samples, while verifying and formatting tested data.
• Work in conjunction with CAE Design Engineers in other regions.
• Act as the primary contact for property data and part design for North American customers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
• Address design challenges faced by North American customers related to our materials.
Minimum Qualifications
• A Bachelor's degree in fields such as Polymers, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of five years of experience in mold filling, cooling, and stress analysis.
• Proficient knowledge and experience with polymeric materials, including mechanical properties, design life, viscoelasticity, stress-relaxation, fatigue, and stress-strain behavior at high strain rates.
• Familiarity with the polymer injection molding process and tool design.
• Experience with model building using tools such as IDEAS and Hypermesh, as well as mold filling, packing, cooling, shrink, and warp analysis using C-Mold, Moldflow, and Autodesk.
• Background in structural analysis using ABAQUS and failure analysis with MA 187, MA-24, and other material models.
• Ability to convey simulation results to clients in a clear and comprehensible manner.
• Preferred knowledge and experience in polymer blending and/or compounding processes.
• Understanding of micromechanics and constitution models of polymeric materials.
• Proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Proficiency in English is mandatory.
