Position Overview

The CAE Design Engineer plays a pivotal role in overseeing design initiatives across the Americas. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting mold flow analyses as required, serving as the North America Mold Flow simulation authority, and maintaining the North American design database while acting as the primary contact for design-related inquiries. Responsibilities also encompass administration of APS PPC North American Technical Data Sheets and the verification and formatting of both static and dynamic tensile/flexural data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support all mold filling and structural projects assigned to the APS North America Engineering Design Group, covering both automotive and non-automotive sectors.
  • Assist in customer mold filling projects by participating in design reviews (Mold Flow & Materials) and providing recommendations on gating, geometry, and other product-related design aspects.
  • Manage the Engineering Design North America material database, which includes essential material properties (thermal and mechanical data) for mold flow analyses, as well as static and dynamic tensile/flexural data, creep data, fatigue data, and compression data.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and business development teams to advocate for LyondellBasell products and innovations.
  • Support Product Application Development (PAD) and business units with the generation of advanced design data.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for outsourcing design data, obtaining quotes, and working closely with PAD Engineers for resin samples while ensuring the accuracy of tested data.
  • Work in conjunction with CAE Design Engineers from other regions.
  • Serve as the focal point for property data and part design for North American customers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Address design challenges faced by North American customers related to our materials.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Polymers, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in mold filling, cooling, and stress analysis.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience with polymeric materials, including mechanical properties, design life, viscoelasticity, stress-relaxation, and fatigue.
  • Familiarity with the polymer injection molding process and tool design.
  • Experience with model building using tools such as IDEAS and Hypermesh, as well as Mold filling/Packing/Cooling/Shrink/Warp with C-Mold, Moldflow, and Autodesk.
  • Experience in Structural Analysis using ABAQUS and failure analysis with materials models.
  • Ability to convey simulation results to customers in a clear and comprehensible manner.
  • Preferred knowledge and experience in polymer blending and/or compounding processes.
  • Understanding of polymeric materials micromechanics and constitution models.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.
