About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Surgical Technologist II to join our Perioperative Services team at Atlantic Health System. As a key member of our operating room team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and supporting our surgeons and anesthesiologists in delivering high-quality surgical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preoperative Preparation: Ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are available and in good working order before each procedure.
  • Surgical Scrubbing and Gowning: Perform surgical scrubbing and gowning procedures to maintain asepsis and prevent infection.
  • Instrument Setup and Maintenance: Set up and maintain sterile instrument tables and prepare supplies according to the type of operation.
  • Assisting Surgeons and Anesthesiologists: Anticipate the needs of surgeons and anesthesiologists during procedures and provide assistance as needed.
  • Counting and Verification: Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse and report any discrepancies.
  • Aseptic Technique: Maintain aseptic technique at all times and institute corrective measures in the event of contamination.
  • Specimen Handling: Assist in the care, handling, labeling, and disposition of specimens according to policy.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Inspect instruments, trays, and packages to ensure sterility and completeness, and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Medication and Solution Verification: Correctly receive and label solutions and medications on the sterile field and verify them with the RN team member.
  • Universal Protocol: Participate in Universal Protocol, including sign-in, time-out, and sign-out procedures, as per policy.
  • Fire Safety and Risk Assessment: Participate in fire risk assessment and ensure that fire safety measures are met and communicated.
  • Equipment Familiarization: Demonstrate and understand the use of all equipment in the patient care areas and communicate any issues or malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Sharps Safety: Maintain sharps safety measures in handling, transfer, and disposal, and direct all team members in safe handling measures within the sterile field.
  • Organized Sterile Back Table: Maintain an organized sterile back table and follow point-of-use instrument cleaning standards.
  • Clean-up and Cost Containment: Assist with cleanup in the OR as necessary and participate in cost containment practices with the use of supplies and equipment.
  • Safety Measures: Maintain safety measures at all times and support the organization's commitment to education and precepting as needed.
  • Efficiency and Teamwork: Support Operating Room goals for efficiencies and work with peers and resources to assist where needed, demonstrating a strong work ethic.
  • PRIDE Values and Professionalism: Maintain PRIDE values and positive professional working relationships with all internal and external departmental team members.
  • Continuing Education: Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education, as per organization and unit mandates, and achieve and maintain professional ST certification as required.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Contribute to team efforts to deliver safe, high-quality care and achieve best patient outcomes through collaboration with peers, supervisors, surgeons, and anesthesiologists.
  • Compliance and Competencies: Comply with all departmental and organizational mandatories and competencies, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Education: High School degree or equivalent required; Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology required.
  • Certification: Certification in Surgical Technology required; BLS required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Associate's degree in Surgical Technology or related field.
