Position Overview:
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist II is accountable for executing a range of routine and intricate technical functions within the laboratory environment to generate critical data for disease diagnosis and treatment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibits expertise and adheres to testing protocols and policies, ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards for equipment and workspace, while documenting corrective measures for any discrepancies.
- Prepares necessary reagents, sustains adequate inventory levels for testing processes, and manages supplies to minimize departmental waste and expenses.
- Utilizes clinical judgment to prioritize tasks, troubleshoot issues, and provide solutions for testing systems, engaging with specialists as needed for resolution or service setup.
- Contributes to the review and enhancement of procedures and documentation pertinent to accreditation, ensuring adherence to all regulatory standards from various authorities.
- Maintains transparent and timely communication across shifts and with leadership regarding any issues that may impact patient care or departmental operations.
- Engages in planning and executing changes through active participation in staff meetings, task forces, or special projects.
- Participates in competency assessment initiatives, as applicable.
- Undertakes additional relevant responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree with a minimum of three years of experience, or a bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution. Foreign graduates must provide equivalency evaluation documentation.
- Preferred qualifications include a BS, MT, or BS, MLS degree.
- If MT or MLS is not specified, a transcript must be provided; foreign diplomas require foreign equivalency documentation.
- Eligibility for ASCP certification is required.
- New MLS/CLS graduates are encouraged to apply.
Experience and Skills:
- Possesses critical thinking abilities, decisive judgment, and the capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to function effectively in a high-pressure environment and take appropriate actions as necessary.
- Demonstrates independence in work tasks.
