Key Responsibilities
The Manufacturing Engineer will:

  • Apply engineering principles to real-world manufacturing settings, demonstrating autonomy in their work.
  • Support a specific value stream and show eagerness for learning and taking on greater responsibilities.
  • Develop and implement design alternatives for existing products through the MCR process.
  • Communicate essential production information, including bills of material and tooling requirements.
  • Provide liaison support by initiating and completing MCR documentation.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to address manufacturing challenges.
  • Process Manufacturing Change Requests (MCRs) into ERP-LN systems.
  • Facilitate product launches in coordination with Program Teams.
  • Conduct cost analyses for product and process options.
  • Lead daily production feedback meetings and provide technical support to associates.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues related to locomotives.
  • Assist in establishing assembly sequencing for new programs.
  • Maintain layouts and control visual and written routings.
  • Contribute to the development of plant layouts for new orders.
  • Write process specifications and recommend ergonomic improvements.
  • Develop action plans aimed at optimizing processes to reduce cycle times and waste.
  • Identify and pursue new technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Participate in design development phases to ensure manufacturability.
  • Maintain PFMEA documentation and simulate continuous improvement processes.
  • Monitor assembly equipment during production start-up and audit manufacturing practices.
  • Attend training and development courses as required.

Qualifications
Required:

  • At least 3 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in product design and a solid understanding of electrical and mechanical assembly processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineering Designation.
  • Experience with process simulation software and CAD tools.
  • Background in low-volume, highly engineered product environments.
  • Six Sigma certification.
  • Knowledge of MRP systems, particularly SAP.
  • Familiarity with railroad regulations and specifications.
