Key Responsibilities
The Manufacturing Engineer will:

  • Apply engineering principles to the manufacturing environment and demonstrate the ability to work independently.
  • Support a specific value stream while exhibiting a desire for learning and increased responsibilities.
  • Develop design alternatives for ongoing production and implement changes through the MCR process.
  • Communicate necessary documentation, including bills of material, production routings, and tooling requirements.
  • Provide liaison support by initiating and completing MCR documentation.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to address manufacturing challenges and provide constructive feedback.
  • Process Manufacturing Change Requests (MCRs) within the ERP-LN system.
  • Oversee print modifications and coordinate updates with the drafting team.
  • Work alongside program teams to ensure timely product launches and participate in model year initiatives.
  • Conduct cost analyses for product and process alternatives.
  • Facilitate daily production feedback meetings.
  • Offer technical process support to team members.
  • Troubleshoot locomotive mechanical and electrical issues as necessary.
  • Assist in establishing process and assembly sequencing for new programs.
  • Maintain area layouts and control visual and written routings.
  • Support the development of plant and process layouts for new orders.
  • Draft process specifications and recommend ergonomic enhancements.
  • Devise action plans aimed at process optimization to reduce cycle times and scrap rates.
  • Lead initiatives for capital improvements in the area.
  • Explore and pursue new technologies to enhance responsibilities.
  • Engage in design development phases to ensure manufacturability (DFM) for new orders.
  • Maintain PFMEA documentation.
  • Utilize continuous improvement methodologies such as KAIZEN and Six Sigma.
  • Conduct simulations of manufacturing operations as needed.
  • Write specifications for manufacturing equipment and recommend procurement strategies.
  • Monitor assembly equipment during production start-up.
  • Audit manufacturing best practices and standards.
  • Participate in training and development activities as required.
  • Exemplify PRS values in all responsibilities.

Qualifications and Experience
Required:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in product design.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in areas such as electrical assembly, wiring, circuitry, and mechanical assembly processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with colleagues, production teams, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Experience working on a manufacturing shop floor.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineering Designation.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software, AutoCAD, Unigraphics, or Solid Edge.
  • Experience in low-volume, highly engineered product environments.
  • Six Sigma training (green belt or black belt certification).
  • Knowledge of MRP systems, particularly SAP.
  • Understanding of regulations and practices from the Association of American Railroads and the Federal Railroad Administration.
  • Familiarity with locomotive products.
