Job Title: Advanced Practice Professional (NP) - Neurosurgery - Spine

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Professional (APP) to join our Neurosurgery team at the University of Michigan. The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care, work collaboratively with our neurosurgeons, and contribute to the development of our spine care program.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive patient care, including history taking, physical examinations, and diagnostic testing.
  • Assist neurosurgeons in the diagnosis and treatment of spine patients, including preoperative and postoperative care.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, order radiographic studies, and perform office procedures as needed.
  • Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic and laboratory tests, and administer follow-up care to patients.
  • Evaluate postoperative patients and routine follow-up visits.
  • Provide routine neurosurgical services effectively and efficiently, and compile and record detailed narrative evaluations/dictations.
  • Return phone calls from patients, handle prescription refills, and manage all aspects of patient care coordination with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Participate in quality initiatives and research endeavors within the department, and contribute to educational activities for staff.
  • Provide OR assistance and perform minor independent procedures as needed.
Requirements:
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • Current DEA registration required.
  • Minimum of two (2) recent years of APP experience with spine population.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Recent experience as an APP in the OR setting.
  • Recent outpatient APP experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in evaluation and care of preoperative and postoperative surgical patients.
  • Demonstrated experience with the management of chronic pain patients.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and patient service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, problem solve, and delegate effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team with other advanced practice professionals.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with program development.
  • Demonstrate experience with research initiatives.
Work Schedule:

Hours: 40 per week

Shift/Hours/Days: Day Shift

Days: Monday - Friday
