Plant Manager Job Description

At Airgas, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Manager to oversee the operations of our South St Paul, MN facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct management of drivers and plant workers, including hiring, training, and safety protocols.
  • Ensure safety is the top priority at the facility, including regular safety training, good catch programs, and online training through WB Manager.
  • Collaborate with CSR's, sales, and plant managers to optimize dispatch for the Jeffersonville facility, ensuring safe and efficient deliveries.
  • Manage product supply and inventory for the facility, working closely with Region CSR's.
  • Oversee associate training and documentation, including WB Manager, DQ files, and SOP reviews.
  • Ensure all truck and trailer maintenance and documentation are up-to-date, including repairs, monthly inspections, and annual testing.
  • Oversee all plant operations, including truck and rail loading/unloading, water system operation and maintenance, and cylinder and tote filling.
  • Manage plant equipment maintenance, including facility inspections, hose inspections, and repair activities.
  • Work with the sales team to address customer issues and concerns.
  • Interact with JJ Keller, Warner Fleet Services, and other vendors as needed.
  • Minimize overtime, level workloads, and cross-train drivers to handle all distribution equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with local Airgas Safety manual, Driver training manual, and Transportation manual, as well as local SOP's.
  • Manage monthly expenses and provide financial insights on budget reports.
  • Assist the Regional Manager in developing annual budgets for the facility.
  • Collaborate with other facilities and managers to develop best practices.
Requirements:
  • 6+ years of professional work experience, including a supervisory role.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Knowledge of safety and regulatory compliance, including DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations.
  • Experience with hazardous materials and hazmat regulations.
  • Knowledge of industrial chemical distribution or logistics, including inventory management.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Google platforms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate others.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
Physical Demands:
  • Able to talk, hear, walk, sit, and use hands to handle objects.
  • Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, and ability to focus.
  • Travel, including driving and airline flights, up to 10%.
  • Capable of wearing a chemical respirator if necessary.
Work Environment:
  • Office environment.
  • Industrial chemical plants and construction sites.
