Position Overview
The Head of University Pep Band Operations is tasked with the recruitment, organization, and leadership of the Pep Band program at La Salle University. This full-time role is integral to enhancing the fan experience during athletic events, particularly for Men's and Women's Basketball, while also contributing to other university functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage collegiate instrumental performers within the Pep Band.
- Identify and attract student musicians who demonstrate both academic potential and a commitment to graduation.
- Maintain accurate records of all recruitment activities in collaboration with the Associate Athletic Director focused on compliance.
- Exhibit proven experience in leading marching and/or pep bands effectively.
- Ensure band participation at games and special events.
- Oversee the management of instruments, uniforms, and various administrative tasks.
- Coordinate logistics for all band-related activities.
- Compile and manage the band budget, ensuring adherence to financial targets, and maintain expense reports related to recruitment and travel.
- Keep an inventory of instruments and other band assets.
- Provide instruction on pep band techniques and the use of instruments and equipment.
- Organize team-building and morale-enhancing activities for band members.
- Foster professional relationships with colleagues and students.
Expectations:
- Act as a representative of La Salle University, promoting sportsmanship and ethical conduct among student-athletes, staff, and fans.
- Adhere to all applicable rules and regulations from the NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference, and La Salle University policies.
- Support the university's educational mission by creating an environment that prioritizes academic success for band members.
- Engage with the broader athletic program, attending meetings and supporting departmental goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with a minimum of two years in a musical leadership role.
- Experience with pep or marching bands is essential.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage band operations independently.
- Valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle check.
- Successful background checks, including criminal records and child abuse clearances.
- Commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
- Experience in administration, NCAA compliance, or marketing is advantageous.
Work Environment:
This position may require evening and weekend hours during peak periods and travel for recruiting and university events. Candidates should be able to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
