Job Summary

The Masonry Concrete Estimator at The Borsello Companies, Inc. is responsible for accurately estimating the costs and resources required for masonry projects. This role involves analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed cost estimates and ensuring that projects are completed within budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Document Review
    • Review and analyze blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand the scope of masonry work required.
    • Consult with internal personnel to clarify project requirements and details.
    • Schedule and attend site visits and pre-bid orientations.
  • Cost Estimation
    • Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment required for masonry projects.
    • Utilize estimating software and tools to create accurate cost breakdowns and budgets.
    • Annotate drawings and prepare RFIs for unclear or missing information pertaining to project scope.
  • Material and Labor Pricing
    • Research and obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for materials and services.
    • Assess labor requirements and calculate labor costs based on project scope and labor rates.
  • Site Assessment
    • Conduct site visits to evaluate project conditions and gather information for accurate estimates.
    • Identify potential challenges or additional costs associated with site conditions.
  • Bid Preparation
    • Prepare and submit competitive government and commercial bids for masonry projects.
    • Ensure that all bid submissions are complete, accurate, and submitted within deadline dates.
  • Cost Control
    • Monitor project costs and compare actual expenses to estimates.
    • Provide recommendations for cost control and budget adjustments as needed.
  • Collaboration
    • Work closely with owners, internal personnel, project managers, construction teams, and clients to ensure estimates align with project goals and requirements.
    • Prepare for and attend bi-weekly project management group meetings to provide insight to the team regarding projects.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintain detailed records of estimates, bids, and project-related documents.
    • Generate reports on cost estimates, project budgets, and financial performance.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Stay updated on industry trends, materials, supplies, and construction techniques.
    • Implement best practices for estimating and cost management.
    • Schedule follow-up meetings with general contractors to track the status of submitted project proposals.
    Qualifications
    • Experience
      • Previous experience in the masonry industry is required.
      • Minimum 5 years of experience in masonry estimation or a related field.
    • Skills
      • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Buildertrend, Plan Swift, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Education
      • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred.
