Intellectual Property Licensing Specialist

The Intellectual Property Licensing Specialist will collaborate effectively with colleagues to perform and oversee technical, patent, and market analysis within designated technology sectors.
The main duties for this role encompass, but are not limited to, independently evaluating innovation disclosures for their commercial viability and protectability; formulating commercialization strategies for innovations; and negotiating licensing and option agreements.

  • Evaluates innovation disclosures for their potential in commercialization.
  • Engages with inventors regarding commercialization strategies.
  • Negotiates licensing and option agreements, including terms, conditions, royalties, and intellectual property rights.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with inventors, researchers, industry partners, and legal teams to facilitate technology transfer and licensing.
  • Oversees and manages existing licensing agreements.
  • Collaborates with Contracts Analyst and Finance team to ensure adherence to agreements.
  • Creates marketing strategies to promote licensed technologies and identify potential business development opportunities.
  • Complies with University and unit-level policies and procedures while safeguarding University assets.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. A Master's degree in science, engineering, biology, ecology, computer science, or a related field, or a Juris Doctorate is preferred.
  • Certification and Licensing: Not Applicable
  • Experience: At least 2 years of relevant professional experience. Any suitable combination of relevant education and/or work experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes: Outstanding oral and written communication abilities. Strong project management skills with proven problem-solving capabilities. Excellent time management skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Proficient in analyzing, organizing, and prioritizing tasks.
