POSITION SUMMARY:

  1. Monitoring and Supervision: Clinical Pharmacy Specialists oversee and manage the centralized intravenous admixture program, focusing on the preparation and supervision of chemotherapeutic and investigational intravenous therapies. They ensure the precise and efficient preparation and delivery of total parenteral nutrition solutions, injectable chemotherapy, antibiotics, and other intravenous medications. Patient profiles and new orders are meticulously reviewed to avert drug interactions and contraindications. (30%)
  2. Unit-Dose Distribution: Clinical Pharmacy Specialists supervise the unit-dose drug distribution program. They maintain a thorough understanding of the pharmacy computer system and software applications. They guarantee the accurate and timely delivery of unit-dose medications and controlled substances to hospital inpatients, while also ensuring that appropriate records and inventories of all drugs are maintained as required.   3. Drug Information: Clinical Pharmacy Specialists provide up-to-date and accurate drug information to healthcare professionals and patients. This includes a comprehensive understanding of new medications, dosage requirements, indications, contraindications, pharmacology, side effects, adverse reactions, precautions, and suitable formulary agents for specific therapies. (5%)
  4. Outpatient Prescription Management: Clinical Pharmacy Specialists supervise the accurate and efficient dispensing of outpatient prescriptions for discharge, day surgery, outpatient clinics, and employee patients. (5%)
  5. Effective Communication: Clinical Pharmacy Specialists engage in effective communication with physicians, nurses, purchasing technicians, pharmacy technicians, and other hospital personnel, ensuring rational drug therapy. They also train and supervise technical staff members, externs, and interns in established policies and procedures. (10%)
  6. Inspection and Compliance: Clinical Pharmacy Specialists or their designee inspect nursing units and clinics to ensure the proper storage and distribution of patient floor stock, controlled drugs, and emergency medications. (2%)
  7. Compounding Responsibilities: Clinical Pharmacy Specialists compound medications by interpreting a variety of prescriptions or vouchers, calculating dosages, and following established pharmaceutical techniques. They review compounding work completed by subordinate pharmacists, externs, interns, and pharmacy technicians. (1%)
  8. Controlled Substance Management: Clinical Pharmacy Specialists dispense controlled substances in accordance with strict security protocols, maintaining accurate control and inventory records and preparing dosage sheets. They assist in periodic audits of controlled substances at nursing stations and in automated dispensing units. (2%)
  9. Quality Improvement Participation: Clinical Pharmacy Specialists engage in the drug use evaluation process and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. (10%)
  10. Additional Duties: Clinical Pharmacy Specialists perform all other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy Services or their designee. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications (Essential Requirements):

  1. Current licensure in good standing in the State of Florida and a degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
  2. PharmD is required; consideration will be given to candidates who have maintained their licenses active/current under previous regulations, including those from other countries with a Florida license.
  3. One year of hospital experience is required.
  4. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and computer skills are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with all levels of staff and physicians.
