Position Overview: Are you ready to advance your career with a leading mining organization? Barrick Gold is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Underground Engineering team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our underground mining operations. The successful candidate will conduct thorough inspections of underground activities to detect rock hazards, offer expert recommendations, and oversee excavation performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct independent visual inspections of underground mining operations to identify potential rock hazards, provide actionable recommendations, and monitor excavation performance.
  • Ensure compliance with Ground Control standards and uphold the ground support QA/QC program.
  • Apply rock mechanics principles to design necessary ground support systems.
  • Gather, analyze, and report on geotechnical monitoring data.
  • Review and provide insights on mine and stope designs.
  • Support ground control safety training initiatives.
  • Oversee consultants and contractors as required.
  • Assist with geotechnical mapping and core logging for specific drilling programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Geology.
  • 5-7 years of experience in Underground Geotechnical Engineering and Geotechnical Design.
  • Proficient in rock mass classification systems, geotechnical analysis, structural mapping, ground support design, and underground mining QA/QC programs.
  • Familiarity with various geotechnical software applications.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including on-call and emergency response as necessary.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team as well as work independently.
