Position Overview

Summary:

The Housing and Employment Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting individuals in securing both meaningful employment and stable housing. This position focuses on empowering clients through comprehensive training and support, ensuring they have the tools necessary to pursue viable job opportunities, whether in paid positions or volunteer roles.

In this capacity, the specialist will educate clients about competitive job markets, evaluate their interests and employment needs, and facilitate direct placements in roles that align with their skills and personal circumstances. Advocacy for clients is a key component, ensuring they receive the necessary support for sustained success in their employment endeavors.

This role also encompasses ongoing client support, which includes providing valuable information and resources to family members and other support networks. Long-term job coaching is integral to this position, aimed at fostering work stability and retention for clients.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a B.A./B.S. degree in sociology, psychology, social work, or a related counseling field, accompanied by a minimum of two years of experience in delivering employment services to individuals with psychiatric conditions. Alternatively, candidates with an M.A./M.S. degree in similar fields and at least two years of relevant experience will also be considered.

Experience Requirements:

Candidates must have at least one year of experience in job coaching, counseling, or placement, or two years in vocational rehabilitation, employment placement, sales, or housing assessment and support services, particularly for individuals facing serious mental health challenges, co-occurring disorders, or those involved in the criminal justice system.

  • Familiarity with Supported Employment and Assertive Community Treatment models.
  • Proficient in behavioral management techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
  • Ability to interpret procedural manuals effectively for staff, clients, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated skills in providing effective counseling, therapy, and clinical services, with a strong capacity to collaborate within a treatment team.
  • Utilizes logical problem-solving techniques independently and collaboratively to address client needs.
  • Skilled in engaging positively with individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish rapport and build trusting, motivating relationships with clients.
  • Maintains professional boundaries between therapeutic and social interactions.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and fosters team cohesion through effective communication and adaptability.
  • Capable of prioritizing tasks and responding appropriately to emergency situations.
