Behavioral Support Specialist

Under the supervision of the special education compliance and complaint management supervisor, the Behavioral Support Specialist plays a crucial role in formulating functional behavioral assessments and behavior intervention strategies. This position offers guidance and support in behavior management to educational staff and families as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishes performance objectives and develops a Professional Growth Plan that aligns with the goals of the department and school system.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports required by various governmental agencies.
  • Designs and conducts training sessions, providing expert assistance on effective behavior management techniques to school staff and parents/guardians.
  • Analyzes suspension records and implements strategies aimed at reducing suspension rates.
  • Creates or collaborates in the development of behavioral interventions for students referred for support.
  • Leverages school and community resources to enhance educational initiatives.
  • Stays informed about national, state, and local regulations regarding special education.
  • Adheres to IDEA and state guidelines.
  • Keeps accurate documentation of student referrals, interventions, and their outcomes.
  • Acts as a liaison between educational institutions and community organizations, facilitating collaboration on cases and helping families access necessary resources.
  • Encourages communication between home and school, actively involving families in their children's educational journey.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in social work, a mental health-related field, psychology with school psychology certification, or education with special education certification.
  • A minimum of three years of supervised experience in special education or mental health services.
