Position Summary

The Medication Assistant (MA) is responsible for delivering resident-focused nursing care and daily living support to assigned residents under the guidance of a licensed nurse. This role requires knowledge of and the ability to provide age-appropriate care that addresses both the physical and psychological needs of residents as outlined in their care plans.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with essential health care tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
  • Recording vital signs and providing psycho-social support.
  • Administering prescribed medications as directed by a licensed nurse, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
  • Documenting resident care outcomes, medication administration, and any changes in condition.
  • Collecting non-invasive body fluid specimens and maintaining cleanliness in living areas.
  • Encouraging resident participation in wellness and recreational programs.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Candidates should be at least 18 years old and have prior experience in clinical or nursing assistant roles, particularly in long-term care settings.

Certification requirements vary by state, including:

  • Completion of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course.
  • Maintenance of required certifications and completion of annual continuing education credits.
