Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) plays a crucial role in providing care to residents during their scheduled shifts in long-term care settings. This position focuses on delivering resident-centered nursing care and assisting with daily living activities under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).
The NA is responsible for understanding and delivering age-appropriate care that addresses the physical and psychological needs of residents according to their care plans.
As a valued member of the nursing team, the NA is expected to adhere to infection prevention and control policies and utilize Personal Protective Equipment as required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting residents with basic health care needs, including daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and obtaining vital signs.
- Providing psychosocial support and personal care to assigned residents.
- Assisting with transfers, repositioning, and ambulation using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Supporting residents during meal times and ensuring a positive dining experience.
- Documenting resident interactions and care outcomes, and communicating any changes in condition to the charge nurse.
- Maintaining cleanliness in living areas and assisting with wellness and recreational programs.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not mandatory. Candidates must be at least 16 years old, with prior experience in long-term care being advantageous.
Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) is required, with training provided by the facility. Ongoing education and competency testing are essential to maintain qualifications.
For applicable states, certification with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry may be required.
