Role Summary
The Medication Assistant (MA) is a vital caregiver responsible for delivering resident-centered nursing care and assisting with daily living activities for assigned residents under the guidance of a licensed nurse. This role requires knowledge of and the ability to provide age-appropriate care that addresses both the physical and psychological needs of residents according to their care plans.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with essential health care needs such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and recording vital signs.
- Providing psycho-social support and personal care to enhance residents' quality of life.
- Administering prescribed medications as directed by a licensed nurse, while adhering to state regulations.
- Documenting care outcomes, medication administration, and any changes in residents' conditions.
- Collecting non-invasive body fluid specimens and vital signs.
- Maintaining cleanliness in residents' living areas through housekeeping and laundry services.
- Encouraging participation in wellness and recreational programs.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Prior experience in clinical or nursing assistant roles within long-term care settings.
- Completion of state-required training and certification for Medication Aides/Assistants.
