The Financial Aid Specialist acts as the primary resource for individuals visiting the Financial Aid Office, delivering outstanding customer service while managing a range of administrative tasks. This role encompasses a variety of intricate responsibilities associated with providing financial assistance services and advising students on available options; processing and validating student financial aid applications; creating and distributing financial aid packages in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations; exercising professional discretion to assess eligibility adjustments; and investigating and resolving issues collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.

  • This position is exempt.
  • Reports to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid.
  • Compensation begins at $45,691, commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver ongoing financial aid support and counseling to students, parents, and university personnel regarding financial aid policies and procedures through various communication channels.
  • Guide students in applying for federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs; explore available options and eligibility criteria; clarify ineligibility when necessary; and interpret the institution's financial aid policies.
  • Provide students with necessary applications, documents, and informational materials; assist in completing and reviewing applications for accuracy.
  • Analyze financial data to assess the ability of students and parents to finance education; verify financial aid applications to determine eligibility based on income, assets, and household size.
  • Prepare and allocate well-structured financial aid packages based on assessed needs; communicate award notifications and advise students on the terms and conditions of their awards.
  • Engage with secondary schools and community organizations to promote the financial aid program.
  • Represent the Financial Aid Office in collaborations with other college departments.
  • Maintain accurate financial aid records by updating relevant data through digital systems.
  • Participate in reporting duties; assist in data compilation and maintenance for record-keeping and report preparation.
  • Stay informed about state and federal financial aid regulations; attend training sessions and contribute to the development of improved procedures.
  • Oversee specific administrative programs or service areas as assigned.
  • Monitor private loan reports; assess student eligibility and manage grant allocations.
  • Administer the student loan program; develop processes for loan applications and disbursements.
  • Conduct educational presentations and workshops for high school students and community groups regarding financial aid requirements.
  • Collaborate with federal, state, and financial institutions to facilitate student eligibility processes.
  • Address inquiries and resolve issues related to financial aid transactions; serve as a liaison for administrative and operational matters.
  • Provide training and support to staff and students; may supervise student employees.
  • Offer guidance to students on career-related financial matters, including debt management and repayment options.
  • Utilize professional judgment to adjust student eligibility based on documented circumstances; refer complex cases to the Director.
  • Support students facing personal or economic challenges that may impact academic performance; coordinate services for special needs populations.
  • Monitor academic progress and eligibility; review student appeals related to academic performance.
  • Provide functional support for Student Information Management Systems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • One to three years of related experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in financial aid administration within a medical college.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with Title IV verification processes.
  • Experience with CAMS software.
