Key Responsibilities of the Medical Records Coordinator:

  • Record Management: Oversee substantial volumes of patient documentation by reviewing and confirming completeness, consolidating duplicate files, and systematically organizing patient records. Gather both current and historical records from various departments and ensure their proper distribution to care areas.
  • Collaboration with Physicians: Alert physicians regarding any incomplete documentation, retrieve and verify pending records for finalization, log physician interactions, and maintain precise logs of suspensions and incompletions.
  • Documentation Oversight: Establish and manage folders for new patients, compile all recent discharges, and retrieve historical records from different units. Guarantee the accurate and timely organization of medical documentation.
  • Administrative Support: Execute administrative tasks such as filing documents, retrieving records, and assisting medical staff or visitors as necessary, while upholding confidentiality standards and adhering to departmental protocols.
Essential Qualifications for the Medical Records Coordinator:
  • Educational Requirements: A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is mandatory.
  • Technical Skills: Strong verbal communication and telephone skills are essential. Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office applications is required. Experience with Electronic Health Records systems is preferred.
  • Healthcare Knowledge: Understanding of medical terminology, record analysis, and tracking of medical documentation. Capability to interpret and comprehend intricate instructions and medical records.
  • Interpersonal Abilities: Proficient in managing sensitive information and fostering positive relationships with physicians, clinical teams, and other healthcare professionals.
