Position Overview for the Health Information Specialist:
- Chart Management: Oversee a substantial volume of patient documentation by reviewing and ensuring completeness, consolidating duplicate records, and systematically organizing patient charts and files. Gather both current and historical records from nursing units and distribute charts to relevant patient care areas.
- Collaboration with Physicians: Inform physicians about incomplete records, retrieve and verify records for completion, document physician visits, and maintain precise suspension logs and lists.
- Record Organization: Establish and route chart folders for new patients, compile all current discharges, and retrieve historical charts from various departments. Guarantee accurate and timely organization and filing of medical records.
- Reception Responsibilities: Execute reception tasks such as filing reports, retrieving charts, and assisting physicians or visitors as necessary, while upholding patient confidentiality standards and departmental protocols.
Required Skills for the Health Information Specialist:
- Educational Qualifications: A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is mandatory.
- Technical Skills: Strong verbal communication and telephone skills. Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office applications. Understanding of Electronic Health Records system applications.
- Medical Knowledge: Proficient in medical terminology, chart analysis, and medical record management. Capability to interpret and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and medical documentation.
- Interpersonal Abilities: Capacity to manage sensitive confidential information effectively and foster positive working relationships with physicians, clinical support departments, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
