Position Overview

This is a full-time, exempt role reporting to the CPP and Counseling Services Manager. The primary responsibility involves providing guidance to students in various aspects of their center experience, including personal and social growth, vocational training, and educational advancement. The role emphasizes a commitment to equipping young individuals for the workforce by exemplifying, mentoring, and overseeing excellence in the eight Career Success Standards, which encompass workplace relations and ethics, information management, communication skills, multicultural awareness, personal growth, career planning, interpersonal skills, and independent living.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate actively with all departments to effectively address the needs of each student.
  • Continuously assess and evaluate assigned students through both formal and informal methods. Aid students in pursuing further education or training and connect them with essential community services for a successful transition from school to employment.
  • Document a minimum of two monthly counseling sessions for minor students and one for adult students, adjusting frequency based on individual needs.
  • Conduct reviews of ESP and PCDP, ensuring information is current and documented according to established timelines.
  • Assist students in establishing both short-term and long-term objectives, recognizing strengths and career obstacles, and resolving personal issues that may impact career readiness.
  • Complete ongoing tasks assigned by Counseling/OCT Supervisors and other program administrators.
  • Prepare written reports and evaluations for external agencies as required, and refer students to Mental Health Consultants or Review Boards when necessary.
  • Co-facilitate small group sessions focused on social skills, employability skills, and core values.
  • Engage with residential staff on a monthly basis, adjusting contact frequency as needed.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with the Center Mental Health Consultant.
  • Participate in all aspects of Career Management Team decisions, assessing students' transitional support needs and devising strategies to address them.
  • Provide training to center staff on relevant counseling techniques.
  • Engage in student orientation and assist in the development of employability plans.
  • Perform AWOL retrieval tasks and manage leaves and passes as mandated.
  • Track and manage projection data, updating weekly to ensure students are progressing as expected.
  • Conduct intake interviews for new enrollees within 72 hours of onboarding.
  • Monitor student attendance and address conduct issues as per departmental protocols.
  • Serve as Counselor on Duty during weekends on a rotational basis.
  • Offer counseling-related support to all other staff functions within the center.
  • Attend mandatory staff training sessions.
  • Model and communicate appropriate Career Success Standards and employability skills consistently.
  • Maintain accountability for staff, students, and property, adhering to safety practices.
  • Foster a respectful and harassment-free environment for both staff and students.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in Social Sciences or a related field, along with one year of experience in a counseling role or a related area.
  • Experience in Job Corps is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid State driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Additional Skills: Proficiency in composing detailed reports and utilizing effective techniques for program activities. Strong verbal communication skills for directing individuals and groups, along with the ability to manage crises effectively. Must complete required training courses and possess sound knowledge of counseling techniques. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to connect with the trainee population. CPR/First Aid certification is required. Competence in operating office equipment is necessary, as is the ability to collaborate effectively with team members across all facility departments.

Working Conditions: This role involves frequent sitting, with occasional standing and walking. The candidate must possess the ability to see, hear, and speak.

Environmental Considerations: The position requires spending approximately 15% of work time outdoors and 85% indoors, with the ability to tolerate moderate noise levels and varying temperature conditions throughout the year.
