Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Nurse

Job Overview


We are seeking a dedicated Inpatient Staff Nurse for our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) who thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

In this role, you will deliver comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients undergoing diagnostic imaging procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety while collaborating effectively with the healthcare team to enhance patient flow.

Shifts Available: Various shifts to accommodate different schedules.



Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients and their families, addressing biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs in a systematic manner.
  • Evaluate situations, foresee potential issues, and identify changes in patient conditions.
  • Adjust and update care plans based on new information and shifts in patient status, communicating these updates to the healthcare team and documenting them accurately.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary rounds and patient care conferences, ensuring documentation is complete.
  • Support patients and families in understanding and executing their roles in the care plan as necessary.
  • Assess learning needs and readiness of patients and families prior to educational interventions.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, families, visitors, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Administer medications and treatments promptly and document all actions appropriately.
  • Show a commitment to continuous learning and skill acquisition to enhance individual and team performance.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at improving unit performance.
Qualifications


All employees at Texas Children's Hospital are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any recommended booster doses, unless a medical or religious exemption is approved.


  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or an associate's degree, technical diploma, or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is mandatory.
  • Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS certification from the American Heart Association are required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of professional nursing experience is necessary.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a PICU setting is preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management and resource management abilities.
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing circumstances.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in operating unit-specific equipment.
  • Knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS, ACLS, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
