Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Nurse to join our team at Texas Children's Hospital. As a PICU Nurse, you will provide high-quality patient care to critically ill children and their families, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and document comprehensive assessments of patients and families, including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs.
  • Analyze situations, anticipate potential problems, and detect changes in patient status, re-prioritizing and updating the plan of care as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, documenting all interactions in the medical record.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and patient care conferences, contributing to the development and implementation of individualized care plans.
  • Assist patients and families in implementing their role in the plan of care, assessing their learning needs, capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn.
  • Administer and document medications and treatments in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development, staying up-to-date with the latest evidence-based practices and technologies.
  • Contribute to unit performance improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for growth and implementing changes to improve patient care and outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or an associate's degree, technical diploma, or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program.
  • Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS American Heart Association certification.
  • One (1) year of professional nursing experience in a pediatric intensive care unit or similar setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work nights and flexible scheduling as needed.
