Internship in Healthcare Management

Overview of the Internship Position
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into healthcare governance, management, financial operations, and the regulatory framework governing the healthcare sector. Interns will be exposed to various departmental functions and may participate in hospital rotations and specific projects tailored to their academic focus and the requirements of their mentors and departments. Each intern will be assigned a mentor responsible for guiding and supervising their internship experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify opportunities for enhancing systems and operational processes.
- Participate in leadership meetings and other relevant gatherings.
- Execute special projects as assigned by members of the Executive or Hospital Leadership team, and present findings and experiences to the relevant leadership.
- Support the achievement of departmental goals and objectives while adhering to established policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations. Ensure compliance with governmental and accreditation requirements.
- Engage in multidisciplinary teams focused on quality and service improvement initiatives. Contribute to community outreach efforts as appropriate.
- Respond promptly to requests for information and assistance.
- Embrace the Mission and Vision of MedStar Health while developing interpersonal skills and advancing professional growth.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required. Current enrollment in an accredited college or university is necessary, or
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and entering the senior year of an undergraduate program or enrolled in a graduate program.
Experience
- Prior experience in the healthcare sector is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- No specific certification, registration, or license is required.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and work independently.
- Demonstrated initiative, follow-up capabilities, attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to articulate and convey complex information to team members and internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
