Overview of the Internship Position
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into healthcare governance, management, finance, and the regulatory framework governing the healthcare sector. The intern will be involved in various departmental functions and/or hospital rotations, engaging in projects tailored to their academic focus and the requirements of their mentors and departments. Each intern will be assigned a mentor who will guide and supervise their internship experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify opportunities for enhancing systems and operational processes.
  • Participate in Leadership meetings and other relevant gatherings as necessary.
  • Execute special projects as assigned by a member of the Executive or Hospital Leadership team, and present findings and experiences to the appropriate leadership.
  • Support the achievement of departmental goals and objectives while adhering to established policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations. Ensure compliance with governmental and accreditation requirements.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary teams focused on quality and service improvement initiatives. Contribute to community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Respond promptly to requests for information and assistance.
  • Embrace the Mission and Vision of MedStar Health while developing interpersonal skills and advancing professional growth.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Current enrollment in an accredited college or university is necessary, or
  • Enrollment in an accredited college or university, entering the senior year of an undergraduate program or in a graduate degree program is required.

Experience

  • Prior experience in the healthcare sector is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • No specific certification, registration, or license is required.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to work effectively within a team as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, and strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Aptitude for presenting and conveying complex information to teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
