As a key member of our Recreation and Parks Department, you will be responsible for the overall direction and coordination of major recreational programs and activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee staff and program activities of a departmental section such as recreation, sports, arts, permits, or special events.
  • Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate the activities, programs or projects within an assigned section.
  • Develop and coordinate a comprehensive safety program and administrative and operating guidelines and procedures for an assigned section.
  • Review and make recommendations for capital improvements for assigned section.
  • Project and propose budgetary needs for personnel, materials, maintenance, supplies, and equipment for an assigned section; prepare section budget; prepare and complete federal, state, or local grant applications.
  • Ensure section expenditures correspond to budget schedules; prepare annual budgetary reports in order to account for the allocation of City or grant funds; evaluate and implement revenue enhancement opportunities for an assigned section.
  • Meet with community, professional and governmental group officials and other interested parties for the purpose of assessing needs, promoting departmental programs, exchanging information, and resolving problems; make presentations and plans meeting agendas.
  • Consolidate information and maintain necessary records; prepare manuals, documents, correspondence, and technical and comprehensive reports.
  • Coordinate marketing, contributions, grants, and volunteer utilization efforts for an assigned section with the department's marketing and development sections.
  • Supervise managers and other section staff; assign and monitor work and evaluate staff in writing; coordinate training opportunities for staff; conduct staff and related meetings; approve leave requests and recommend disciplinary actions.
Requirements
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience in recreation administration or a closely related field, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Substitution(s): Two (2) years of additional experience in recreation administration or a closely related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required education on a year-for-year basis. A master's degree in public administration, recreation administration, or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required non-supervisory experience.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
