Job Summary

The Senior Project Manager - Estimator will oversee the estimating and project management department at AMI Construction, Inc. and work closely with operations to provide technical expertise in all scopes of work needed to ensure projects are measured, priced, and executed according to customer specifications and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Job Sourcing: Monitor industry publications, databases, and online platforms to identify potential projects for bidding.
  • Estimate Review: Review and analyze prepared cost estimates and proposals to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate with subcontractors to determine the financial needs of completing a project, including organizing bonds and permits.
  • Job Costing: Identify, measure, and track labor, material, and time for job costing and actual vs estimate analysis.
  • Estimating Process Improvement: Develop, maintain, and improve the estimating process and work methods to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Departmental Coordination: Coordinate departmental efforts with other departments to ensure a continuous flow of work.
  • Team Management: Recruit, train, retain, and manage the estimating department, including conducting regular team meetings to ensure the team is focused on safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Client Communication: Coordinate with clients on all changes in scope, questions, addendums, or clarifications regarding the work during the bidding process.
  • Business Development: Develop and maintain relationships with customers to stimulate repeat and/or referral business.
  • Operations Support: Act as a resource to operations during the award/start-up phase to clarify any issues regarding what was considered in the estimate, such as materials and methods of construction.
  • Management Team: Serve on the management team and communicate concerns/issues/suggestions related to safety, personnel, culture, behavior, etc.
  • Job Measurement and Progress: Create and monitor progress of job measurements, takeoffs, customer proposals, and work orders.
  • Professional Development: Strive for continuous improvement by participating in training and educational events or courses relevant to the position, career path, or industry.
Requirements
  • Experience: Two (2) to three (3) years of proven construction management and estimating experience; Civil Engineering is a plus.
  • Software Skills: Experience with Agtek and Bluebeam is required. Building Connected, HeavyBid, Construct Connect, Procore is preferred.
  • Leadership Skills: Comfortability leading a diverse team toward a common goal including supporting, motivating, and disciplining subordinates.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to read civil plans and develop cost estimates.
  • Attention to Detail: Detail oriented with ability to pick out details within huge plans.
  • Adaptability: Process driven with ability to pivot and adapt to each project/issue/challenge.
  • Industry Knowledge: Concrete, asphalt, base stone, or excavation experience is a plus.
  • Decision Making: Independent and innovative decision maker.
  • Communication Skills: Strong analytical ability, quantitative and problem-solving skills, and excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
  • Team Player: High energy, results oriented, team mentality with a strong desire to win.
  • Independence: Ability to independently manage own work and that of the team, and ask questions until resolution is achieved.
